FAA REQUIREMENTS FOR TEMPORARY MARKING OF WIND TURBINES DURING CONSTRUCTION

To comply with current 2016 FAA recommendations for wind turbine construction, a company must:

  • Light wind turbines once they reach 200 feet during construction (submitting a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to justify not lighting the turbines is prohibited)
  • Use an FAA compliant L-810 light with a minimum intensity of 32.5 candela (cd)
  • Ensure temporary solar lighting systems have 7 days of autonomy at 32.5 cd

FAA COMPLIANCE

The OL800 is a low-intensity solar LED obstruction light. The OL800 meets the FAA guidelines for solar lighting and fulfills L-810 light specifications. Click here to read our compliance verification reports.

FAA REQUIREMENTS FOR MEDIUM-INTENSITY SOLUTIONS

The OL370i Vanguard Integrated for Wind Turbine Lighting meets FAA L-864 compliance and Transport Canada CAR621 requirements. For wind turbines with a rotor tip height between 500’ and 700’, two OL370i units may be used together on one nacelle to meet FAA AC 70/7460-1L specifications.
